The Plot Sickens
There is a hoary old cliché that warns:
Lie down with dogs and you will wake up
with fleas.
Sadly, with each passing week, that
appears to be the case with golf and the
Olympics, two strange bedfellows.
Increasingly complicated course site
disputes in Rio’s courtrooms continue
to threaten the game’s scheduled re-entry into the Games in 2016. And the
International Olympic Committee (which
for decades now has needed a thorough
fumigation) isn’t exactly riding to the
rescue. Golf deserves better.

Meanwhile, with no course yet built,
golf in the 2016 Olympics, already on the
clock, is perilously and frustratingly close
to going dark.
Speaking of the clock, Morgan Pressel
got penalized with the loss of a hole for
slow play Sunday in the semis of the
LPGA’s Sybase Match Play, where there
were only four players on the course all
day. Good for the officials. But curious
time and place to send the message.
Pressel gets punished on her tour
and Kevin Na doesn’t pay a similar price
on his?
Speaking of statements: Winners
Nicolas Colsaerts in Spain and Jason
Dufner in Dallas are both strong bets
to factor in September’s Ryder Cup. Big
talents, both.
