Oosthuizen Sizzles In Africa
USGA Makes Walker Cup Change
VOLUME 4 ISSUE 2
It’s no secret that part of Hogan’s “secret”
was all about “digging it out of the dirt.” But
native South African Louis Oosthuizen took
this mantra to a new Jedi level last week in
Durban. First, Oosty scored an excavator for
winning the pro-am portion of the Volvo Golf
Champions. Then, he annexed the tournament
proper Sunday by a shot over Scott Jamieson
with a closing 66.
Meanwhile, inside this week’s Post you
will learn the exclusive details on why Johnny
Manziel (aka “Johnny Football”) won’t be
playing at Pebble Beach next month (even
though tournament officials wanted him) and
that Tiger Woods probably won’t show up
on the Monterey Peninsula, either. We also
report the USGA’s significant Walker Cup
policy change.
Oh, by the way, a certain curly-coiffed
young Ulsterman is scheduled to sign with
Nike today for enough money – reportedly
$250 million – to keep girlfriend Caroline
Wozniacki in flawless diamond tennis
bracelets until the actual Mayan apocalypse.
Finally, congrats to Sony Open winner
rookie Russell Henley, 23. We knew great
things were in store way back at the University
of Georgia when he won that Golden Globe
for best driver and putter in a Mini-Tour event
or Made-for-TV movie. Seriously, the free-
swinging Henley is dripping with confidence,
innocence and game. Remind you of anybody?
Our British readers will have noted his
last name is the same as their famed regatta.
Television viewers will have noted that he
officially boat-raced the field when he buried
a seagoing 45-footer on the 14th hole of the
final round for a three-shot lead he never
relinquished.
