Great Expectorations? No longer for Keegan
Bradley, who said he would work to halt the
frequent spitting, which drew criticism via
social media after the final round and playoff in
the Northern Trust Open.

“I’d like to apologize for my spitting,”
tweeted Bradley, who as a rookie won last
year’s PGA Championship. “It’s like a reflex. I
don’t even know I’m doing it, but it’s a long-
time habit I’ve got to try to conquer.”
In his pre-Accenture media session, the
25-year-old Bradley said, “I was very surprised to
see the replay of the (Northern Trust) telecast to
see how much I was spitting. I had no idea I was
doing this. I feel bad. I just ask everybody to just
kind of bear with me as I go through this.”
Bradley made seven birdies and no bogeys in
defeating two-time winner Geoff Ogilvy, 4-and-
3, the first round, but he had three of each in
falling, 2-and- 1, to 48-year-old Miguel Angel
Jimenez, the Spaniard with the ponytail, gray
beard and paunch, in the second.

His vulnerable No. 1 spot was a hot topic
as Westwood and McIlroy vied to topple him.

“There’s always a little bit more expectation
and certainly more demand on my time,” he said.
“Juggling that is tough at times. Saying no to
some people that I probably wouldn’t have had to
do in the past. That’s a little bit tougher. Getting to
No. 1 is certainly something I was very proud of.”
He noticed the past tense and corrected
himself. “Something I am proud of.” It’s tough
at the top.
Surprise package in the desert was Peter
Hanson, enjoying the Swede smell of success.
His inspiration was an idea nicked from Westwood. He had listened to the Englishman’s
press conference Tuesday saying how he was
pumping himself up for fast starts.
“I’m a pretty calm guy, taking it a bit easy.
But I’ve been gearing myself up to get that
killer instinct by listening to high-tempo music
on the radio and turning up the volume up.”
