ROAD HOLE BUNKER NOW SEEMS NOT SO DAUNTING
World No. 1 Luke Donald, pictured, joined Martin Kaymer for some swings
near a mammoth, 250-foot dune in Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Desert, which is the
world’s largest uninterrupted sand mass. The desert was made famous
by British explorer Wilfred Thesiger’s 1940s’ crossing, then immortalised
in the book Arabian Sands. “When you spend the vast majority of your time
on the course, it’s easy to forget that Abu Dhabi is surrounded by such an
enchanting desert landscape,” Donald said. “Truly, I was awestruck.”
