just a short drive away. Suddenly,
I can’t help wondering whether it is
the rum that is making me forget
exactly why I have come here, or the
fact that this island simply has so
much to offer.
Don’t get me wrong, the golf on
the Kohala Coast is quite good. At
the celebrated Jack Nicklaus course
Hualalai at the Four Seasons that
plays host to the Champions Tour
season-opening tournament each
year, for example. And also the Robert
Trent Jones Sr. track at Mauna Kea,
which features a Cypress Point-like
par 3 early in the round and plenty
of scenic, yet tough, holes after that.
Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay built the
rugged Hapuna course in the scruffy
hills above that layout, and it puts a
premium on solid shot-making.
