Bridgestone Unveils J40s ( 7)
The silly season is almost nigh. So pay
attention. There might even be a quiz:
The hottest player in the world isn’t Luke
Donald even though he won his last start and
is ranked No. 1 in the world.
The richest player in the world, if you
count 2011 money made, isn’t U.S. Open
champion Rory McIlroy even though he just
won two million bucks in a Shanghai money
grab Sunday.
The best player in the world has long
since ceased being Tiger Woods even though
he used to be the hottest, richest and best-
there-ever-was all wrapped in a neat, if
unapproachable, package. That was back
when Tiger wouldn’t even kick the tires on a
Buick for less than seven figures.
This is now and – wow – look at what
Sergio Garcia just did in his homeland. The
volatile Spaniard has won twice in two weeks
and arrived Monday morning, like a bottle
rocket, in the top 20 of the Official World Golf
Ranking. El Niño is hotter than a lit fuse.
And that’s okay with Luke as long as two
things don’t change: He remains atop the
money lists in both Europe and America. And
he rightfully wins the PGA Tour’s Player of
the Year voting despite the foul odor of last
week’s ballot deadline tampering by that
Tour’s bosses.
Oh, by the way, Yani Tseng – the most
dominant player in the world – just won
again. This time in something called the
Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China.
