Rory McIlroy has warned his rivals he’s
untouchable when he’s on top of his game. In a
statement that certainly doesn’t lack confidence
or self-belief, the U.S. Open champion says no
one can keep pace with him when’s he’s at his
best. The Holywood star has experienced the
amazing highs and crushing lows of golf but he
remains convinced that he’s No. 1 in the world
when everything clicks into place. His bullish
statement will surprise Lee Westwood and Luke
Donald who are both above the 22-year-old in
the world rankings.

Its dark purple-brown colors denote not just extreme drought, but “exceptional” drought. This is
no news for Texans. “It’s like we’ve had a big ‘H’
(for high-pressure zone) parked over us all year,
and we’ve had to watch the rainy weather rotate
counterclockwise around Texas, like the spokes
on a bicycle wheel,” said Charles Joachim, the
golf-course superintendent at Champions Golf
Club in north Houston.

that, you couldn’t,” she says. “Even for a movie.”
Laura Davies, as sanguine as they come, does
not exaggerate. For she is recalling those 35
convulsive minutes in which the Solheim Cup
contest spun 180 degrees, from an apparently
copper-bottomed American win to a first Euro-
pean triumph for eight years.

The current drought map of the U.S., maintained by the federal government, shows a small
amber blemish in the Southeast, indicating mid-level drought conditions, and a much, much bigger circular bruise in the middle of the country,
shrouding virtually all of Texas and Oklahoma.
