It’s official, Rory McIlroy confirmed to the
Independent.ie he’ll rejoin the PGA Tour in 2012,
and the 22-year-old Ulsterman is planning to
buy a place of his own in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Nine months after deciding to give up his
PGA Tour card for 2011, McIlroy has been per-
suaded by a number of factors, on and off the
course, to make this about-face, including hir-
ing a private security team to guard his house.
“I’ve had security guards at my house every
night since I won the U.S. Open, just patrolling
around the area,” he said.

relationship with
Tiger Woods, and
expressed hopes the
former top-ranked
golfer can “overcome
his difficulties.” Tag
Heuer had stopped
promoting Woods’
image in the United
States in December
2009, weeks after
revelations about his
marital problems
began to emerge.
Woods acknowledged last week that Shane
Joel has been strongly recommended to him
as a candidate to become his next caddie. Mark
O’Meara, Woods’ friend, made the recommen-
dation. Joel caddies for O’Meara on the Cham-
pions Tour.
When Pat Perez realized that he would likely
finish a stroke back to Scott Piercy at the Reno-
Tahoe Open two weeks ago, he stormed off the
course and headed to the clubhouse, spiking a
water bottle into the ground for good measure.
Approached by a boy seeking an autograph,
Perez blew right past him without stopping.
Perez owned up to his behavior the next day on
Twitter, and pledged to track down the boy. Ap-
parently, he succeeded.
