On golf’s two biggest stages last week,
the “liquid sunshine” was relentless. Rain
forced the Scottish Open into an abbreviat-
ed, 54-hole format. And at the U.S. Women’s
Open in Colorado, precip and its evil twin
– lightning – made for early wake-up calls
and long days’ journeys into night.
The winner of women’s golf most im-
portant championship was So Yeon Ryu,
who birdied the 72nd hole Monday morn-
ing to tie countrywoman Hee Kyung Seo.
Ryu then made two more birdies in the
three-hole aggregate playoff for her first
official LPGA victory.
Global Golf Post’s editorial decision was
an easy one here. The U.S. Women’s Open
will always be important enough for us to
hold our publishing release until this event
is completed.
Meanwhile, back in America’s heart-
land, a Deere found itself squarely in Steve
Stricker’s headlights for the third straight
year. It’s frightening how well the top-
ranked American plays in the John Deere
Classic and disappointing how he hasn’t
followed up a victory there with anything
better than a T52 at the Open Championship
the following week.
Finally, it was a big week for Donalds
here at The Post. Donald Trump, a golf
legend in his own mind, reveals inside a few
idiosyncrasies that may surprise you. World
No. 1 Luke Donald fashioned a spotless
Sunday 63 to win the rain-shortened Scot-
tish Open at soggy Castle Stuart.
