Jaye Marie Green, 16, fashioned a six-birdie,
one-bogey 67 to coast to victory at the South
Atlantic Women’s Amateur at Oceanside G&CC
in Ormond Beach, Fla. Green posted a 72-hole
total of 5-under-par 283, four shots better than
14-year-old Charley Hull. Third-place finishers
Ashlan Ramsey and Ericka Schneider were 12
shots off the pace set by Green at 7-over 295.
Green, already committed to play golf at the
University of Florida, won the Polo Junior Classic in November, her first AJGA triumph. She
finished T5 at the Dixie Amateur in December,
and the Sally is her first amateur title.
Hull, a young Englishwoman who has her
own website , finished
12th at the Harder Hall the previous week. She
will play in the Jones/Doherty Championship
next week in Florida before returning to the
U.K.
a four-ball round, an alternate-shot second
round and a scramble in the final round. The
senior amateurs (50+) play the course at 6,450
yards, while the “junior” tees measure 6,850 on
the par-72 course.
UIHLEIN RECLAIMS TOP SPOT IN WAGR
Peter Uihlein reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the
World Amateur Golf Ranking, allowing fellow
American David Chung to hold the top spot for
just one week. Uihlein advanced largely due to
the mathematical formula, as neither player
competed last week. The big move of the week
was posted by Brandon Nagy, winner of the New
Year’s Invitational in Florida. Nagy jumped 138
places to No. 394. Runner-up Bank Vongvanij
climbed six spots to No. 60.
