All The News
That Fits...
Let’s see ... Hunter Mahan got married
over the weekend to a woman named Kandi
and Dustin Johnson told a reporter that he
and Natalie Gulbis aren’t in a serious rela-
tionship. Meanwhile ...
... Oops. Almost forgot myself for a sec-
ond. This is, after all, Global Golf Post, not the
New York Post.
Of greater importance, if not prurient
interest, to followers of our grand old game
was the statement victory by South African
Charl Schwartzel in Johannesburg on Sun-
day. Schwartzel, 26, will ply his game on the
Euro and PGA Tours this year and is just itch-
ing to join Rory, Ryo, Ricky and D.J. for a spot
in the first row of the team portrait of the
world’s best players younger than 30. Ignore
him at your own peril.
In rainy Hawaii, a journeyman named
Mark Wilson emerged from the sodden pack
on a 36-hole Sunday free-for-all to sop up a
win at the Sony Open.
And looking ahead, don’t be surprised
soon when the Euros announce Jose Maria
Olazabal as their Ryder Cup captain for next
year’s matches at Medinah. Olazabal and
U.S. captain Davis Love III are two of the
nicest men in golf. Truth be told, though, the
Ryder Cup “plays” better when nastiness is
involved.
Speaking of nasty, North Korea will stage
an amateur golf open in Pyongyang in late
April. No truth to the rumor that the pro-am
goody bag includes an autographed copy of
Kim Jong Il’s “ 10 Favorite Bunkers North of
the 38th Parallel.”
