Whoever first said the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree must have been talking
about Nate McCoy. A junior at Iowa State, Nate is the son of Mike McCoy, one of
the most accomplished amateur golfers in Iowa history. But Nate has amassed
quite a résumé for himself. This summer, he narrowly missed a berth in the U.S.
Open when he finished sixth in sectional qualifying. His best golf came at the
Porter Cup, where he fired rounds of 69-66-68-70 to finish fifth at 7-under par.
