AJGA Names HP Scholastic
Junior All-America Team
To excel in the classroom, students must be
academic and civic leaders. To excel on the golf
course, athletes must be dedicated and perse-
vere. A balance must be struck in order to excel
as a student-athlete, and tis year 24 AJGA mem-
bers found this balance better than the rest.
Since 1988, HP has challenged the aca-
demic and athletic efforts of AJGA members
through the HP Scholastic Junior All-America
Team. These individuals will be honored at
the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet
Nov. 21 at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm
Beach Gardens, Fla.
“HP is delighted once again to recognize
academic excellence with the naming of the
2010 HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team,”
said John Dayan, vice president of marketing,
Personal Systems Group Americas, Hewlett
Packard. “The AJGA works hard to prepare
young adults for life after high school by instill-
ing honor, perseverance and good sportsman-
ship. HP is proud to be associated with the AJGA
and this great group of young adults.”
This year’s overall essay winner was Drew
Kirby, of Baton Rouge, La. He is a senior at
Catholic High School and will receive a com-
puter, compliments of HP.
Four student-athletes were named to the HP
Scholastic Junior AA Team for the second straight
year: Ashley Armstrong, of Flossmoor, Ill.; Marika
Liu, of Beverly Hills, Calif.; Patrick Rodgers, of
Avon, Ind.; and Stani Schiavone, of Bangor, Pa.
Armstrong (Homewood-Flossmoor High
School) ranks fourth in her class of 707 students
with a 5.89 GPA (on a 6.0 scale). She volunteers
with the Kids Golf Foundation of Illinois and has
raised $5,000 for that group and the AJGA Foun-
dation through the AJGA Leadership Links pro-
gram. Armstrong earned three top- 15 finishes in
2010 and has verbally committed to Notre Dame.
