A day after winning the U.S. Open at Pebble
Beach,
Graeme McDowell
headed south to
Los Angeles for an appearance on the “The
Billy Bush Show,” a nationally syndicated
radio show hosted by the nephew of
George
H.
and first cousin of
George W.
Among the
sound bites to come out of the interview were
McDowell ranking
Phil Mickelson
and
Lee
Westwood
as the top two players in the world,
respectively, “on current form,” and
Tiger
Woods
a close No. 3. “Tiger is the greatest
golfer to ever grace the fairways, but he’s a
little less invincible now,” the Irishman added.
“All of a sudden there is a human element to
his persona, and guys see that he’s not the
god-like golfer they thought. He’s beatable but
still an unbelievable golfer.”
News on Tiger is always a mixed bag. On
the plus side, he was cleared of fathering a
Tiger’s financial hit from lost endorsements
in 2009 conservatively at between $23 and $30
million.
Gary Player
has a new book out this month.
It’s titled “Don’t Choke: A Champion’s Guide To
Winning Under Pressure.” Mental-game guru
Dr. Bob Rotella penned the foreword. Player
is offering an opportunity through his Black
Knight Shop to purchase an autographed and
dedicated version of the book at a special price.
It is a limited-time offer between June 1 and
Sept. 1. Proceeds will benefit The Player Foun-
dation. All autographed books are dedicated to
the recipient. Only one autographed book per
household will be allowed, and delivery time
can vary from two to eight weeks. For more
information, visit garyplayer.com.
Zimbabwean
Nick Price
is bummed that
South Africa, the host nation for the World
Cup, has been ousted, but he remains a keen
observer of the action. And he makes no apolo-
gies for those annoying – to some – vuvuzelas
(pictured below). “That’s what we’re used to. It’s
a whole part of the atmosphere, the drums and
the vuvuzelas. After a while you just drown it
out. It doesn’t worry me. I guess it has irritated
a lot of people here (in the U.S.). I’ve actually
got four coming. My buddy sent me four. He
Fed-Exed them. My wife won’t be too happy
when the kids get hold
of them.” l
