Kaahanui, Kim Reign In Phoenix
Trey Kaahanui, of Tempe, Ariz., strung together three solid rounds at Moon Valley Country Club for a 6-under-par 210 total to claim a
one-stroke victory at the AJGA Ping Phoenix
Junior on Thursday. Alex McMahon, of Oro
Valley, Ariz., closed with a 3-under 69 to finish
second at 211.
In the Girls Division, Kyung Kim, of Chandler,
Ariz., recovered from a first-round 76 to shoot
6-under 66 in the second round and went on to
a two-stroke victory, her third career AJGA title.
She finished at 2-under 214. Jenny Hahn, of
Henderson, Nev., was second at even-par 216.
It’s not the first time Kim and Kaahanui have
won the same tournament. They won their respective divisions at the 2008 Heather Farr Classic presented by Longbow Golf Club. RESULTS
12-YEAR-OLD WINS QUAD CITIES
Twelve-year-old Allisen Corpuz, of Honolulu,
survived three rounds and a sudden-death playoff to win the Junior at Quad Cities on Thursday
to become the fourth-youngest player to win an
AJGA event. In the Boys Division, Nick Huggins,
of Marietta, Ohio, birdied the first playoff hole to
pick up his first AJGA win at Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club in Rock Island, Ill.
Corpuz began her final round two strokes
behind 2009 champion Emma Talley, of Princeton, Ky., but shot the only sub-par round to
catch Talley at 2-over-par 215. She won the
playoff with a par on the first hole.
Huggins entered the final round tied for the
lead with Michael Bernard, of Huber Heights,
Ohio. Matching each other shot for shot, Hug-
gins and Bernard posted a final-round 73s to
finish 54 holes at 2-over-par 215. An approach
to three feet in the playoff set up Huggins’ win-
ning birdie. RESULTS
ACE KEYS STACKHOUSE WIN
THOMAS, MARTINDALE ROLL IN LEXINGTON
Justin Thomas, of Goshen, Ky., won the Boys
16-18 Division by 10 shots in the PGA Junior
Series event at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., that concluded Thursday.
Kendall Martindale, of Jefferson City, Tenn.,
won the Girls 16-18 Division, also by 10 strokes.
Thomas and Martindale earned exemptions
into the 35the Junior PGA Championship in Fort
Wayne, Ind., Aug 2-5. RESULTS
