The USGA’s marquee event
is finally getting star treat-
ment. This June’s U.S. Open
Championship at Pebble
If a playoff is necessary, it
will be aired starting at noon
Monday. ESPN will cover the
first two hours and NBC will
then provide coverage until
completion.
With his wife and kids on
an extended leave in Sweden,
Tiger Woods
, who will resume
play this week at Quail Hollow
and the following week at
The Players (he’s also com-
mitted to the AT&T in July),
has spent the post-Masters
weeks meeting with a real-
estate agent, playing golf
with pals
John Cook
,
Freddie
Couples
and
Michael Jordan
at Isleworth, where he made
his third double-eagle, on
the par- 5 17th, and attend-
ing a Nickelback concert in
Orlando. He also received
some good news on his lone
U.S. golf course design at The
Cliffs in western North Caro-
lina. Since the project was
announced in 2007, only one
house has been completed
and seven more are under
construction. But, accord-
ing to the
Wall Street Journal
,
developers have raised an
additional $63 million from
500 members that will ensure
completion of the course, set
to open in 2012.
Twice bitten
Greg Norman
is smitten again. Less than six
months af-
ter divorc-
ing
Chris
Evert
, the
55-year-
old Aussie
multimil-
lionaire
is in love
again. According to
New
Idea
magazine, Norman has
been introducing 41-year-
old
Kirsten Kutner
to close
friends as his new girlfriend.
Kirsten, a mother of two, is an
interior designer in Sydney,
and she and Norman report-
edly have known each other
for years. Norman’s 25-year
marriage to first wife,
Laura
Andrassy
, ended in divorce
in 2006. He married Evert in
2008, but they divorced just 18
months later.
Players Championship
officials, after losing an
estimated $100,000 a year
for three years providing free
parking and shuttle service
for fans parking at the Uni-
versity of North Florida lots,
have shut down that site after
a survey showed fewer than
1,000 cars per day were using
the lots,
jacksonville.com
re-
ported. The good news is that
all public parking has moved
to the lot adjacent to the
Stadium Course and parking
remains free for practice-
round days ($25 for tourna-
ment days). The Players will
be staged May 6-9. For more
