Jeong 14 Under Down Under;
Collects Second National Title
Jin Jeong of Victoria won the 115th Rivers-
dale Cup International March 8 at Riversdale
Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia. Jeong won by
three strokes with a near-flawless final round
of 7-under 65 that included eight birdies. He
battled much of the final day with fellow Victo-
rian Luke Bleumink before birdies on the 17th
and 18th assured Jeong of his second national
title within a month.
The Korean-born Jeong finished the 72-hole
event at 14 under. Bleumink finished second at
11 under and Ashley Umbers of New South Wales
placed third at 9 under. Singaporean Zhiqun Lam
was the best of the internationals at minus 5 and
tied for sixth, while England’s Neil Raymond tied
for ninth at minus 4 along with defending Riv-
ersdale Cup champion Jordan Sherratt of South
Australia and Jordan Zunic, of NSW.
Jeong now heads to the Australian Amateur
in Perth March 18th, where he is aiming to add
another national title to his Riversdale Cup and
Tasmanian Open of three weeks ago. His win
also gives him entry into British and Victorian
Amateurs, as well as points for the European
Amateur Championship and the Mark H. McCor-
mack Medal, which is presented annually by The
R&A to the leading player in the World Amateur
Golf Ranking.
Jin Jeong won the 115th Riversdale Cup with a final-
round 65.
HAINES;DEFEATS;TEAMMATE;IN;SPANISH;AM
Matt Haines beat his England and Walker Cup
teammate Tommy Fleetwood on the 37th hole to
win the rain-delayed Spanish Amateur Cham-
pionship at La Canada Golf Club in Cadiz. In a
see-saw battle, Kent-based Haines held the lead
on seven occasions but needed a birdie at the
first extra hole to finally shake off his close pal
and rival. It was Haines’ first major match-play
title, having reached the Spanish quarterfinals
a year ago. For Fleetwood, it was case of déjà
vu after his defeat in the final of the New South
Wales Amateur a few weeks ago. Haines’ victory
means he becomes the fourth Englishman to
lift the title in the past five years. Fleetwood and
Haines will return to Spain next week as England
teammates to defend the European Nations Cup
alongside Tom Lewis and Chris Paisley. l
