Rain Forces Monday Finish In Puerto Rico
The Puerto Rican Open presented
by Banco Popular will conclude
Monday because of torrential rains
that kept players off the golf course
at Trump International. It took until
the middle of Sunday afternoon for
the PGA Tour event to complete its
second round.
When dark-
ness stopped
play late Sunday,
Kevin Streelman
and Chad Collins
were tied at 12
under. Streelman
had 11 holes to
go in the third round, while Collins
had made it through just five holes.
Officials will resume the final round
early Monday, and it is expected to
conclude at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time.
The halfway cut came at 2-under-
par 142, with 70 players moving on
to the third round. Meanwhile, the
Tour made the decision not to re-pair
players between the third and fourth
rounds. After 36 holes, James Nitties
and Collins were tied for the lead.
In his first six events this season,
Collins had earned more money
than he did after 24 events during
his rookie year in 2008. Collins then
finished second on the Nationwide
Chad Collins
Tour money list in 2009. He won the
2009 Miccosukee Championship on
the Nationwide Tour. Nitties missed
his first six cuts this season.
How bad was the weather prior
to the weekend? On Thursday, the
first-round was suspended at 7: 19
a.m. local Atlantic time due to heavy
rains, which led to unplayable course
conditions. A total of 6. 6 inches of
rain fell on Trump International Golf
Club on Thursday. Six-tenths of an
inch of rain fell on the course on
Friday. Between Friday, March 5 and
Wednesday, March 10 at total of 5. 4
inches of rain fell on the course.
