UCLA won the Battle at the Beach in Newport Coast, Calif. The Bruins surged to victory
thanks to a season-best 7-under-par 348 in the final round to edge Arkansas and Wash-
ington by one shot. UCLA finished the tournament at 10-under 1055. Senior David Ling-
merth from Arkansas and freshman Chris Williams from Washington shared medalist
honors at 8-under 205. Williams fired a 6-under 65 in the second round, while Lingmerth
jumped from T10 to T1 with a final-round 7-under 64.
John A. Burns Intercollegiate

UNLV won a nailbiter to take the John A. Burns Intercollegiate over reigning national
champion Texas A&M. The Rebels fired a final-round 14-under-par 274 to tie Texas A&M
after 54 holes at 28-under 836. It took one playoff hole for UNLV to capture its third title of
the 2009-10 season. California and BYU shared third, 12 shots back at 16-under-par 848.
Texas A&M senior Andrea Pavan was medalist with rounds of 70-69-65 for a 12-under 204
total.
UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational

Texas Tech successfully defended its title, winning the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational at
Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Tex. The Red Raiders entered the final round
tied for the lead with Southeastern Louisiana, but carded a final-round 9-over 293 to the
Lions 11-over 295 for a two-stroke victory. In his collegiate debut, Southeastern Louisi-
ana freshman Philipp Westermann fired a final-round 2-under 69 to edge Wichita State
senior Dustin Garza by one.

Rice posted the low scores for all three rounds to win the Rice Intercollegiate at
Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Tex. The Owls fired a 22-over-par 886 to win the
tournament by 19 strokes over Auburn, which finished second at 41-over 905. Rice
senior Christopher Brown shot the only tournament round in the 60s on the final day,
a 3-under 69, to take medalist honors. Brown finished at even-par 216 to win his first
intercollegiate title.
